I've got soul, but I'm not a solider [entries|friends|calendar]
You know how much I like smart.

I want to shine on in the hearts of men. I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand. Another head aches, another heart breaks. I am so much older than I can take. And my affection, well, it comes and goes. I need direction to perfection, no. Help me out, yeah, you know you got to help me out. Yeah, don't you put me on the blackburner. You know you got to help me out. And when there's nowhere else to run, is there room for one more son? These changes ain't changing me.

Hi, everyone,

As some of you know, Corpus Christi MDA's annual Stride and Ride Walk is coming up February 21st. The Muscular Dystrophy Association helps over a million Americans of all ages suffering from over forty neuromuscular diseases, including ALS and Duchenne, that affect not only the muscles, but the entire body system as the disease manifests. MDA is the world's largest non-governmental sponsor of research; their research for causes and effective treatments has led to the sponsorship of 400 research projects annually as well as clinical trials, research grants, and the ground-breaking identification of some molecules. MDA also provides support and treatment to its clients with clinics, equipment, support groups, and summer camps for its younger clients.

MDA holds a special place in my heart. I lost a cousin from Duchenne muscular dystrophy when I was just a child. He was the first person in his family to ever have it, and he died at the age of twenty-three: eleven years past what his doctors originally estimated his lifespan when he was just two. His nephew, my second cousin, also has it, and already shows the symptoms from it. MDA helped Bryan tremendously, and is already helping EJ. I've been working telethon and lock-ups for MDA since I was fourteen.

I know finances are a topic of concern for just about everyone right now. But donations to MDA are tax-deductible, and unlike many other organizations, 78.4% of every dollar donated goes directly to research, services, and education while the rest goes to fundraising and administration. So it's money well spent! I would like to raise enough money for one minute of research: $85. It's easy to donate on
my secure Stride & Ride homepage: https://www.joinmda.org/corpus09strideride/torikkins

If you donate even just five or ten dollars, it would be fantastic! Thank you so much!

[ music | Sarah Silverman & Matt Damon - "I'm Fucking Matt Damon!" ]

Normally, I cannot watch Sarah Silverman. It has nothing to do with her comedy or whether I think she's funny or not. She looks SO much like a Jewish version of my high school BFF that I can't get over it.

But this is freaking hilarious. You've probably already seen it, but I'm posting it anyways. Sarah Silverman & Matt Damon present: "I'm Fucking Matt Damon!"

For everyone who's moved who recently from a certain special journal site (which I think is everyone), I highly recommend...

LJ-SEC to transfer journal posts! The instructions & DL are on the link provided, second on the list. You can transfer a whole slew of entries, including community entries. You can't transfer comments, but I'm pretty sure that no program can. At least none that I've heard of yet. It's very easy, quick, and I haven't had any problems with it.

ADBLOCK PLUS FOR FIREFOX to get rid of those annoying-ass ads on IJ! Seriously, it may very well save your sanity. Tenfold.

And this LIST OF ICONS UPLOADERS that [info]spencerreid recommended. I haven't used it yet, but since [info]spencerreid recommended it, I'm sure it's made of awesome.
